. EMIT NEWS Mias Janet Faucette The WMU of Watkins Chapel Church met with Mrs. Ronald Hales Monday night with 16 mem bers present. Mrs. Linnie Creech, Mary Ellen Creech, Mrs. Snowie Faucette, Mrs. E. J. Hales, Mrs. Ezelle Johnson, Mrs. Ruby Creech and Mrs. Ruth Hinton, all attended a Bible School Clinic held in Smithfield last Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Perry and children called on Mr. and Mrs. Elton Wood and girls of Dixie Sun day night. Janet Faucette was a Saturday night supper guest of her aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Bailey of Raleigh. Jimmy Strickland was honored at a supper Easter Monday night at his home given by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Strickland. Those attending besides his par ents were his sister, Judy Strick land, Miss Kaye Eddins of Zebu Ion, the Dalton Batten family of near Wendell, the Charles Ray Hintons and Chuck, the Charles Smiths of Raleigh, Mrs. Elwood Horton and Beverly of Wendell, Mrs. Percy Strickland and sons of Corinth, the Pet Highs and Pender of Middlesex, A. D. Hinton and Evelyn and Mrs. Braswell. Daphne Wilson and friends went to the mountains during the week end. Several women of Watkins Cha pel Church served supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hinton of Selma Thursday night. Vickie Jo Perry spent Sunday with her aunt, Janet Faucette. Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Wall and boys attended a dinner at the home of the Leonard Bunns Sunday in honor of Arthur Wall. Mrs. Robert Price visited her husband at Ft. Jackson, S. C., Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wilder and daughter of Wendell and Miss Kaye Eddins of Zebulon were sup per guests of the Ralph Stricklands and Jimmy and Judy Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Driver and Mike called on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Boyette, of Glen dale Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Perry and children were Sunday dinner guests of his mother, Mrs. Dallie Perry, of Bailey Sunday. Sidney Driver, who is in the US Navy called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Driver, from Califor nia Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. Ed Miles and fam ily of Walstonburg were Sunday dinner and supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Strickland and Judy. The Junior and Primary Classes of Watkins Chapel Church had a wiener roast at the church Satur day. There were about 16 there. Mrs. C. H. Driver is at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Dri ver, and Mike this week. Mrs. Mary Hales is spending a few days with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Phillips, of Rock Ridge. Honeycutt, son of Mrs. Lois L. Honeycutt, Route 1, Zebulon, recently was graduated from the 82d Airborne Division Jump School at Fort Bragg. Honeycutt received his paratrooper wings after complet ing four weeks of intensive ground and aerial training which includ ed five parachute jumps. The 82d, a Strategic Army. Corps (STRA£) unit, maintains an immediate readiness force for airborne deployment to any area in the world. The 18-year-old soldier entered the Army in September, 1960, and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. Honeycutt attend ed Wakelon High School and was employed by the McLaurin Park ing Company, Raleigh, before en tering the Army. UNION CHAPEL ' Janice Denton The Vacation Bible School teachers and officers met last night at the church with Rev. George Stallings. Plans were made to be gin a study of VBS material in preparation of the coming school: Miss Betsy Mitchell spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John Garner near Archer’s Lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Medlin and Frederick of Zebulon were Satur day night supper guests of the Spencer Tants. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Creech and Mrs. Lena Phillips last Thursday afternoon were Mrs. Mamie Watson, Mrs. Ruth Wat kins, Mrs. Lillie Horton, all of Bethany community, Mrs. Vera Rhodes, Mrs. Alice Hood and Mrs. Hettie Vause of Wakefield. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Price and boys moved into their new home near Wake Builders last Friday. The Chester Walls and boys of Rolesville, the Graham Lees of Ra leigh and the Reginald Cunning hams visited with their mother, Mrs. Essie Cunningham, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Brannon of Glory and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Creech and Brenda went to Wil mington recently to view the beau tiful azaleas. They also visited Carolina and Wrightsville beaches. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnife Tant and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wall were visitors in the Smithfield Meat Packing Plant near Smithfield, Va., last Sunday. Miss Debbie Foehl’s grandfa ther from Philadelphia, Pa., spent last weekend with her. Cornell Ferrell spent the week end with his father, Cordie Ferrell, and his .grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Ferrell. Miss Jean Denton spent Satur day night with Mr. and Mrs. Jim my Young. It was appreciated more than I can express. May God bless each and everyone of you. Mrs. Ruric Gill, Jr. Private Creech In Pau, France Army Pfc. James H. Creech, Jr., whose parents live on Route 1, Zebulon, recently participated with . other personnel from the 8th ihfantry Division’s 81st Artil lery in Operation Pogo, an exer cise near Pau, France. The exercise featured an air borne assault by the division's paratroopers and a number of platoon-size raids by infantry backed up by combat support units. Creech, regularly assigned as a truck driver in the artillery’s Bat tery A in Mainz, Germany, en tered the Army in March, 1956, and arrived overseas on this tour of duty last November. He attended Corinth-Holders High School. Beta Club Members Attend Convention By Sandra Perry Having had a marvelous and in formative time eight members from the Wakelon High Beta Club returned Sunday afternoon from Asheville, N. C., where the North Carolina Beta Club Convention was held. The group left Friday morning, April 7, with the Wake Forest chapter on the Wake For est activity bus. Attending from Wakelon were: “Pete” Creech, Joyce Chapman, Judy Temple, Di ane Strickland, Jo Ann Bunn, Car olyn Finch, Betty Bunn, Freddie Clark, and chaperones Mrs. Jim my Spivey, and Mrs. Stanly Seago, sponsor. All enjoyed attending meetings on Beta Club functions, witnessing installation of state officers; meet ing other Betas; and listening to speeches by prominent persons in the educational field, and by Beta members from all over North Car olina. Also on the agenda was a talent show, banquet, and dance— the climax of the convention. These, too, were enjoyed by the approximately 4,000 youths pres j ent. The Manor Hotel provided the very best facilities for their stay in the “Skyline City,” and each of these feminine travelers will agree that their weekend was a perfect one, and one that will long be remembered. Mrs. Donald Stallings under went a minor operation Tuesday at Carolina General Hospital in Wilson. * Mrs. W. G. Griswold, Sr., is suf fering from a coronary occlusion at Rex Hospital. PTA To Hear State Supervisor of Music Dr. Arnold E. Hoffman, State Supervisor of Public School Music of the State Department of Public Instruction, will be the guest •speaker at the Wakelon PTA Mon day night, April 17. Dr. Hoffman will inform the public concerning the place of music in the school program, Mrs. Wilson Braswell, program chair man said. The meeting will get underway at 7:45 o’cldck.
